That is what I found also. Surveillance Station still seems to be somewhat of a beta project, it seems to take a lot of trial and error to set up cameras, and there is a risk that an update to Surveillance Station will break connectivity (I believe that some people were reporting issues with ONVIF camera connections after the latest update). There are definitely several people using the product successfully. I have quite a few cameras, all of which support FTP. For my setups, I simply enable FTP on the Synology units, and configured the cameras to send motion triggered video clips to the Synology using FTP.

License Purchase Surveillance Station 5.0 comes with 2 or 4 free IP camera licenses* for Turbo NAS (depending on the model) and you can expand the number of channels to meet your demands by purchasing additional licenses. AXIS Camera Station, video management software, is the ideal solution to meet the needs for efficient surveillance of small- and midsized installations, such as retail shops, hotels, schools and manufacturing sites – a proven solution with more than 50,000 installations worldwide. If camera license cost is the #1#1 issue for you, try Blue Iris. As for me, I uninstalled BI and I'm only using SS. I concluded that the camera license cost was like paying for ongoing support. I did buy four additional camera licenses from newegg.com for $47.50 ea. This wasn't a four pack. It was a quantity discount on individual licenses.

Once transferred to the Synology, it is easy to review previews thumbnails of the videos using Windows 7/8 Explorer. I have 4 cameras recording on a DS114se with a total of 40 FPS at 3MP - well beyond the stated capacity. This is by using the software that came with my cameras and using the Synology as an iSCSI NAS. I'm not happy with that solution because I have to leave the PC on all the time and if the PC stops for any reason I don't have any recordings.

At another location, on a DS214se I am using Surveillance Station with one additional license. I don't really like the software or the extra charge for the extra camera - and a few more cameras to add so more licenses to build. At the first location, I purchased a DS214+ to replace the se with the idea of using Surveillance Station for the current 4 cameras and I'm adding another 12 cameras.

I'm really unhappy that Synology is charging me by the camera at that price. Driver pack 2018 free download. I don't know if Synology will let me post this or not but I also purchased a few 9 channel NVRs offshore that I use for backup recording.

Can i uninstall intel management engine interface. Those work pretty well and don't have a per camera charge. I find it strange that none of the other packages on the Disk Station have per use fees, only Surveillance Station - because they can, not because the development, distribution, or support requires it. They can because GeoVision and other bigger players in surveillance do it. Jpeadro80 wrote:Am I correct when searching additional camera licenses on Google they are $50/camera? Seems steep when a whole surveillance NAS system w/camera runs $300-$500 for consumer grade. If I have 6 cameras total indoors and outdoors that's another $200 in license fees.

Thanks for your feedback, Jeff You are right that a decent NVR for 6 cameras will cost $300 - $500 but don't forget that you will also need hard disks as most NVR do not include them. That could be another $200 for surveillance/NAS grade drives. I'm finding Synology is definitely not worth it for dedicated NVR use. Way over priced and completely unreliable. It would be one thing if it was rock solid reliable but its far from it.

Synology Surveillance Station License Cost

I've attempted to do about 8 installs using Synology NAS as dedicated NVR's and I'm regretting them all this point. All the older ones stopped functioning well enough to be useable as the DSM and the SS Package were upgraded over a 2 year period they slowed to crawl. A lot of the newer ones I've installed I'm getting constant camera disconnects when using ONVIF. Save yourself the head ache get some Dahua NVR's and call it day, more money in your pocket as a Dealer and way more reliability.
